n another setback to the Malayalam film industry, actor, screenwriter and director Venu Nagavalli (61) passed away on Thursday morning in the wee hours at a private hospital. He was ailing for some time due to kidney-related diseases. His death came at Kings Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram at 1.30 am. He is survived by wife Meera and son Vivek. Both were beside him at the time of his death.

The body will be taken to his Kavadiaru home in the morning and the last rites will take place in the evening at the Thycaud crematorium. Fans and wellwishers, on hearing the news of his death, are paying their last respects.
Venu is the son of the renowned writer, commentator and broadcaster, Nagavally R.S. Kurup. He had his education at the Thiruvananhapuram Model School and in the University College. He began his stint with AIR as an announcer. Then followed cinema, first as an actor then as an director.
His last film as an actor was Sathyan Anthikad’s Bhagyadevatha. He has acted in around 50 films and directed a dozen of Malayalam movies. From 1980 till 1998 he had starred as an actor.
