Off to Marudhamalai! Today was a festival day, and a lot of rush. Best way to reach Marudhamalai - catch a bus from anywhere in the Kovai city to Vadavalli (maximum 4 rupees), from Vadavalli to Marudhamalai (3 rupees). Better if you climb up the hill. Will not take more than 30 minutes to climb the hill. WOW! Beautiful place. Will look better if you have lived in the Nawabi city of Lucknow for one year. Then, from the temple, I went to Government College. Nice place. I wanted to refer some books, but, little did I think that the Libraries are not open on Sundays. (IIML is a different story).
Then, didnt know what to do in life. Went to a cinema (A dubbed version of some stupid Jet Li's movie). Atleast, that was better than a Chimbu's film. Then, off to some delicious Chettinad dishes. Aapam and Thengaai paal are becoming my favorite dishes here. (Is Krishna and Vijay reading this?) Ok... coming back to the topic of this post... Kovai kusumbu. For non-Tam people, Kusumbu means Nakkal... err... Nakkal means Kalaaikals... Well... Some Tam words have no equivalent peers in English.
Kovai Kusumbu #1
I boarded a bus. It was going though a bridge.
I asked the conductor - 'Anne, Idhu yendha bridge anne?'
He replied - 'Over Bridge'
I - (Daaaaai) 'Adhu illane, idhu yenna bridge?'
He - 'Oh! Railway thandavvalam mel pogara bridge'
I - (OP... Podaaang) 'Anne, Idhu per yennane?'
He - (Finally) 'Avinashi Road Bridge pa'
Kovai Kusumbu #2
The bus conductor was shouting earnestly at the top of his voice to the passengers to buy tickets.
Our Nakkal nayagan (a 60 year old man) shouts to some one in the front - 'Appuuu'
Person 2 - 'Yenna apppuu'
Person 1 - 'Appu ticket vaangidu apppuuu... illaina conductor aayiram rupa fine poturuvaar apppuuu'
Person 2 - 'Vaangiten appuuu'
I couldnt control my laughter, after hearing such innocent tamil.
I went to a Palmist, and showed my right hand (what else will u do? huh!). He said - 'Pengalaal ungalakku thontharavu. Court case police yelaam pogum... Vilagiye nilungal' (Problems due to girls... Stay away from them). Reminded me of Annamalai where Superstar Rajni is warned like this. Hopefully, I should be getting someone like Kushboo (like in the film). One more thing he said - 'Sanni nadakudhu pa... Bahdirama irundhunga'. 'You have good oratory skills. You van talk to all kinds of people. You have an excellent judgemental brain, about people, and you can read faces. and whatever you say, will happen. You have that Shloka shakthi. But, you will have a lot of enemies'.
Appo... inime naan thaavani potta pengalai paaka mudiyaadha? Aiyoooooo.... Yenna Blogla pulamba vechutaangale! Aiyooo... :-(( *sob* *sob* Yen vidhi yenna ippadiyelaam aati padikuthe... Kovai jigudigalai sight adikaama yenna saamiyaar aakitaangale! Indha aniyaayatha keka yaarume illaiya? 21 vayasu vaalibana, Kovai maadhiri oru sooperaana orrla, thaniya, paatai adichu saamiyaar aakitaangapa... Heights of Kovai kusumbiness!
