The Jamia Millia Islamia Sports Complex, a practice venue for Commonwealth Games 2010, shall be inaugurated on the 4th of August 2010. The Jamia Sports Complex will be used by players for practice sessions for Rugby 7s and Table Tennis.
The Complex shall be inaugurated by Dr. M.S. Gill, Hon'ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in an Inaugural Function to be held on August 4, 2010 at 11.00 AM at Jamia Sports Complex, Jamia Millia Islamia.
Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon.'ble Chief Minister of Delhi shall be present on the occasion and will preside over the Inaugural Function. The Inaugural Function will be attended by many dignitaries and officials apart from Members of the University community.
On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Najeeb Jung, an invitation is being extended to you to cover the Inaugural Function. Press Invites have already been sent to your office. This is to remind you to bring your Invites along for security reasons. We request you to also carry accreditation cards/press I-cards with you and produce them, if necessary.
Jamia Millia Islamia is a practice venue for Table Tennis and Rugby 7s during CWG 2010. Towards this, the present sports infrastructure has been upgraded at the cost of Rs.42.00 crores.
The earlier multi purpose hall has been refurbished and upgraded. This has included changing of the roof, reinforcing the walls, changing the flooring, improving the façade, air-conditioning, lighting and acoustics etc to bring it up to international standards.
The earlier cricket ground has also been upgraded to make it ready for practicing Rugby 7s. This ground has a new drainage system, a re-laid turf, flood lighting and a synthetic walking track on its perimeter.
A combined services complex has also come up. This has been merged with the existing multipurpose hall and has facilities like changing rooms, a fitness center, venue coordinators room, athletes waiting lounge, stores for playing equipment, meeting & briefing room, physiotherapy & massage rooms, medical room, cafeteria and ice bath.
