The Human Centipede
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1fwmW31HC9o/TFpYTJ8wFwI/AAAAAAAABWQ/GhQ1uSUS5v0/s1600/human-centipede.jpgThe Human Centipede: Generally, I try to hear / read / see as little as possible about the movies I write, but in the case of the centipede rights - if we move in circles ladles - it was difficult to avoid the advance word and the word advance was "yeeuch!
selling point of the film is an idea Nasty - a mad surgeon, Dr. Heiter (Dieter Laser), will capture three human subjects and sew in a row from the mouth to the anus to the mouth, so they actually become a creature with a gut. I sincerely hope you are old enough to make the icky connotations of this, because I sure as hell not going to clarify for you. I do not think I'm spoiling anything for potential viewers when I reveal that the operation does not end well for all concerned.
Tom Six film is in many respects, exactly what you expect. The implementation is the shape of the B-movie cheese, straight out of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and countless others, with two dumb American teenagers, Lindsay, Jenny (Ashley Williams and Ashlynn Yennie C), stumbling in the crazy house after their car breaks in the woods at night. It is clearly cheap, the distribution is small, the sites are rare, script and acting hovering around the standard porn film, and following the rules of operation, all characters that are not fools are stupid. Public sympathy for the characters of Lindsay and Jenny increases significantly after surgery, partly because of the horror of their situation, and partly because they are now unable to express an idiotic dialogue. Nobody asks why Dr. Heiter was complex, the obsession of patients will be disappointed. We know he does not like people, he used to separate two Siamese twins, and he is mad. That, and without any real reason given for his insane desire, Heiter comes to resemble the doctor obsessed ass in South Park. THC exists to show a number of horrible things happening to a number of people for 92 minutes. Pretty much everyone dies. It is what it is, and you can not say you were not warned.
This utilitarian approach to gross-out is actually the result more watchable. We do not see the doctor removing Katsuro (Akihiro Kitamura) at the head of the centipede, because it is only important to the story it presents itself. In fact, we do not see many people outside the house at all Heiter - a road crossing the highway, the woods, an anonymous hotel room - because we do not need to know more. When the cops turn inevitably they are the gateway to both the doctor and we never see a police station, or the witness is heard shouting in an American accent, because six is not interested really nothing outside his sealed medical nightmare. It is as if the house Heiter, with its clean, ordered furniture and cellar to hospital laundered, are outside any recognizable location in the world. This, combined with the unreal, the nature of some stilted dialogue, gives the film a strange offbeat, and that's good. If we were convinced that whatever was happening to real people, it would be unbearable.
How much of this oddity is just the budget, and how much has been through six design is uncertain, but the film is conceived as a European fashion minimalist. This is not a freakout Texas Chainsaw, there is none of your nonsense Rob Zombie hand here, the camera work was composed: all tripod, pan, and Dolly, with no Saw or Hostel or modified mischievous thriving industrial gothic. This may sound crazy given its subject matter, but the film is actually quite simple. The angle should not be sexually exploited, a bar just UN-eroticized nudity. The soundtrack is unobtrusive and refined. Similarly, anyone expecting fountains of blood and filth scatological be surprised to see how the movie does not show.
Even if it is cracked in the concept is not entirely devoid of thought. There is a recurring motif in communication with two girls who can not understand German Heiter, and no one speaks Japanese Katsuro, the doctor has the perverse effect, given its millipede's head itself can not understand (and curiously, the longest Katsuro, speech is the most spectacular untranslated). What is Six trying to say here? Maybe, you know, we can all learn to get along as a species if we do a mad doctor to sew? Hell if I know. He was an early director of Big Brother TV phenomenon. What seems perfectly logical.
So are there reasons to watch The centipede rights, other than novelty grotesque? Well, there Dieter Laser performance: it suggests absolute gibbering madness through body language tense and measured language, overacting and sober at the same time, like Christopher Walken on Thorazine. He screams about "mad scientist", even before donning the white coat color and regulation, and his impatience and irritation with all other full-screen characters are her scenes really funny. Then there is the establishment title itself, which is both an idea of illness and disturbing, and undeniable surrealist spectacle, as something that crawled out of Garden of Earthly Delights Bosch, and Pasolini's Salo or 120 Days Sodom.
But frankly, there is not much to The Centipede human, really. It is as if once he had conceived the basic idea (apparently as an appropriate punishment for convicted child molesters), six could not reach a lot to do with it. It's better than it should be, I had some bad laughs, and it will after. Centipede Man II (complete sequence) is already on the road, God help us. Can I be the only hope for a new direction in which the centipede of man comes to terms with himself as a new body, learns to love his own body, and you end up with a tap dance routine on Broadway that the public will never forget? C'mon! Now that's entertainment!
