Michael Been who led ’80s band The Call died last night at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium after suffering a fatal heart attack. He was 60. The father of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Robert Been, The Call had a great run in the ’80s, charting hit records like “The Walls Came Down,” “I Still Believe (Great Design)” and “Let the Day Begin.” The band’s music was peppered with political messages, and megastars like Peter Gabriel, Bono and Robbie Robertson were among their many fans. More recently Breen served as co-producer and engineer on various BRMC albums and was their trusted sound engineer for as many years. Breen’s contribution to the alt-rock scene was significant. Let’s take a moment and remember his work via this video of The Call’s “Everywhere I Go.”
