Government appears closer to ending impasse in Parliament

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/2010/7/5ea82767-5cc8-4ca3-b918-cb2917c75cf6MediumRes.JPGEven as the Left parties looked set to accept the United Progressive Alliance government's formula to break the week-long deadlock in Parliament, the principal Opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and its NDA partner, the Janata Dal (United), moved closer to reaching an understanding with the government, when they met here on Sunday to finalise their strategy. The National Democratic Alliance leaders have decided to attend the meeting called by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, and try and “finetune” his proposal.
This follows an invitation extended by Mr. Mukherjee to the parliamentary leaders of the Opposition parties to breakfast on Monday to discuss the government formula.

Sources said, the plan is to get the chair to move a resolution – at the end of a short duration discussion on price rise — which will express “concern” and which will then be unanimously passed by the entire House. The draft resolution which Mr. Mukherjee discussed with the Opposition leaders, and will be placed again on Monday at the meeting, reads: “This House expresses concern at inflationary pressure on the economy and calls upon the government to contain its impact.”
